Tuesday September 1, 2009 Indianapolis, IN - Chicago - Tokyo, Japan

Day 4 and 5 of 36

IND - Chicago - Tokyo - Seoul, Korea
Flights 3, 4, and 5 of 18 flights
6,732 miles out of 22,121 total miles to be travelled

I'll cross the International Date Line today so I'll leave Chicago on Tuesday and arrive in Tokyo on Wednesday afternoon.

I woke up about 6:30, showered and dressed. Woke the girls up a little after 7 by singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" to them. Lauren woke right up but Lillian was the sleepy head this morning. Finished packing, said my goodbyes to Lincoln, Lauren, Lillian, Ed and Pat and then Leslie took me to the IND airport. Check-in was swift - got rid of the big bag and will reclaim it in Seoul tomorrow night.

Had a biscuit at McDonalds, did email, took the political quiz that Lincoln told me about (I'm a centrist, social moderate!), and then went to catch the first of three flights. First to Chicago. Everything on time. Went to the Red Carpet Club in Chicago and charged up my PC. We loaded on time but were about an hour late leaving Chicago. I was seated upstairs in the Club Lounge on the aisle like I like.

Uneventful trip over - we flew over Canada, Alaska, Russia, and then down to Japan. It was a 12 hour non-stop flight and we arrived on Wednesday afternoon. Watched 3 movies - "The Soloist", "Benjamin Button", and "Duplicity". Enjoyable.

As we fly along, it is now Wednesday, September 2 . . . on to the next post . . .

Went to the Club in Tokyo Narita for a short while and then loaded up for the final leg to Seoul. Another 2 hours in flight. I napped as I was beat. They took our temperture on arrival in Seoul. Lots of people are wearing masks due to the swine flu pandemic.

Got my bag, got money from an atm, bought a KAL bus ticket and then rode about 50 minutes into Seoul from the airport. The Millennium Seoul Hilton Hotel is right in the middle of downtown and there is a huge casino here. Modern high-rise. Checked in, showered, and went to bed about 10. Exhausted.

A good trip to the other side of earth!
